New Alpha Checkweigher from All-Fill Ideal for Flexible Packaging

Powered weigh table offers high accuracy for tough-to-handle pouches.

Alpha Checkweighers, a division of All-Fill, Inc., (Exton, PA), is adding a newly redesigned model to its product line — the Alpha PW-12 is a powered weigh table that will be shown for the first time at Pack Expo, Booth #S-217. The table is designed specifically for pouches and other flexible packages that are unsupported, irregularly shaped, or otherwise difficult to handle. Checkweighers that use chains or bands as a conveying medium are unreliable for these types of packages; alternatively, the Alpha PW-12 balances its weigh table belt, pulleys, and gearhead drive motor , thus ensuring accurate weighing of up to 200 packs per minute (+/-0.5 grams).

PW-12 checkweighers integrate easily with existing filling lines and can accommodate flexible or rigid packages of up to 8 lbs (3,632 g) in sizes up to 14” (356 mm) long by 8” (203 mm) wide. All-Fill offers them in a number of configurations to meet varied user requirements, including with a choice of reject mechanisms for out-of-spec packages. One version equips the PW-12 for use with a form fill and seal system. Controlled handling via optional infeed and outfeed conveyors properly spaces packages to facilitate accurate weighing. Feedback communications between the PW-12 and the filling machine (using a variety of popular techniques) helps to enhance filling accuracy. For users who need complete system integration, All-Fill can supply a line that includes a rotary unscrambler, a filler, the PW-12 checkweigher, a metal detector, a labeler, a capper, a sealer, and a rotary accumulator.

An advanced controls package comes standard with the PW-12. It includes a touch-screen interface that displays reference values, measure values, and production counts. Storage is provided for 25 programs. Statistical reports can be generated on demand. Sample and hold features allow quick quality checks. Optionally, the control package can be expanded with more reporting capabilities, storage for 100 programs, and easy linkage to nearly any data network.
