BELT CONVEYOR ARRANGEMENT PRESERVES FRAGILE FISH PRODUCT FOR FILLING

October 18th, 2014

APPLICATION CASE HISTORY

Midwestern packager of fish products wanted to automate their packaging line of herring fillets and lutefisk offerings. Conventional methods of filling the cylindrical containers were ruled out. The fragile fish portions would not survive auger or vibratory filling methods. All-Fill’s solution was a unique, dual-stage Belt Conveyor Fill-to-Weight design that gently transported and deposited into a Weigh Bucket for dispensing into containers traveling on a separate conveyor.

Each Belt Conveyor consists of a sanitary, food grade belt driven by a variable speed motor. Each Belt Conveyor feeds product to a load cell-equipped Weigh Bucket. When a preset Target Weight is attained, the Weigh Bucket empties through as Transition Funnel, into the containers. In addition to the three primary Belt Conveyors, an additional three cascade Belt Conveyors were included in the design to regulate product flow from a bulk hopper.

Filling is performed in a two stage Bulk and Dribble sequence where the Belt Conveyors operate at a pre-selected speed to dispense a selected bulk weight value. When this weight is achieved, the Belt Conveyors switch to a different speed to dispense product to attain a final Target Weight. The Cascade Belt Conveyors also include a variable delay before starting for an even flow of product without spillage and undue waste. Belt Conveyor speeds, delays, weighing parameters, and equipment control are easily selected from a color touch screen control panel.
